With the pause in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits across the nation, RLCF Board of Directors has made an impactful contribution to demonstrate their commitment to RLC's students and community by restocking the RLC Food Pantry's shelves.

"Given these realities, RLCF believes it is appropriate that we respond with urgency and compassion," said Amy Newell, RLCF Director. "Our hope is that this contribution from the RLC Foundation would not only help restock pantry shelves, but also demonstrate to our campus community that the RLC Foundation is deeply committed to student success 鈥 in every sense of the word.鈥

"The RLC Foundation Board of Directors recognizes that student success is not just about academics; it's also about meeting fundamental needs," said Tony Wielt, RLCF Chair. "We are proud to make this significant contribution to the RLC Food Pantry to ensure our students have the resources they need to stay focused on their education and thrive."

During the 2024鈥2025 academic year, the RLC Food Pantry provided approximately 985 meals to students, and 62 unduplicated students utilized the main food pantry. Additionally, an estimated 10鈥12 students use the Wellness Room food basket daily.

"The food pantry is amazing, and has not only helped me, but my two children," said an RLC culinary student. "We were able to get food to help with our needs between me just getting back to work and going back to school to better our lives.鈥

"The food pantry program has helped me relieve my stress and anxiety beyond the classroom setting. I have utilized the pantry multiple times this semester due to unforeseen circumstances," said a first-year nursing student. "Not knowing where my next meal or snack was going to come from at home or while at school was stressful and nerve-wracking. The RLC Food Pantry gave me the relief that I wasn鈥檛 going to have issues getting through these rough times. The food pantry helped me focus more on my studies and clinical sites while in the ADN nursing program. I鈥檓 a successful student due to the RLC Food Pantry.鈥

Currently, RLC is aiming to collect 750 non-perishable items for the 2025 Feed the Need drive. These items can be food items or personal hygiene items, such as laundry supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.

"We owe a huge thank you to the RLC Foundation for this generous donation to our food pantry," said Vickie Schulte, Dean of Student Success and Development. "This support will allow us to keep the shelves stocked and our students supported, especially during these trying times. We are extremely grateful for all the Foundation does for our Warriors!"
